Acne Treatment with Anti-Acne Facials

July 6, 2015 by Hudgens MD

Acne Treatment

People of all ages suffer from acne and breakouts. Many people associate acne with teenagers, but the reality is that acne can strike men and women of any age. Even though who never had acne as a teen can suffer from breakouts as an adult. For some, traditional over-the-counter creams, washes, and toners are not effective treatments.

At Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center in Windermere, we offer different acne treatments that can be tailored to your skin type. We’ll work with you to determine the most effective treatment option for your needs. One such treatment option is an anti-acne facial.

Why get an anti-acne facial?

Anti-acne or deep-cleansing facials are recommended for people who have uneven complexions or oily skin. The treatments work for both men and women, and clients often need more than one treatment to get the desired results. Usually, they will need to undergo a series of treatments and follow a regimen at home to maintain their results.

What happens?

Prior to treatment, we will analyze the client’s skin and its problems to decide on the best course of treatment. During the consultation, the patient should discuss any medications they are taking. Some medications can make skin more sensitive, and we will need to adjust your treatment accordingly.

The treatment can involve steaming, exfoliation, facial extractions to remove sebum that clogs pores, deep cleansing, and a healing mask with a moisturizer. We may also use glycolic and salicylic acids to prevent and control flare-ups.

What is exfoliation?

Exfoliation is a process during which we remove the dead skin cells on the skin’s outermost layer. There are several different methods to perform an exfoliation. We offer microdermabrasion, chemical peels and laser resurfacing as additional acne treatment methods. These can be used in conjunction with your anti-acne facial or as standalone treatments.

What are extractions?

During extractions, blackheads and whiteheads are removed. The extraction is typically performed after the skin had been thoroughly cleaned, exfoliated, and possibly steamed. It is an important part of the facial since a medical professional can safely remove blackheads and whiteheads without further damaging the skin.
