Diaper Rash
Diaper rash is a condition that develops in infants and toddlers that affects the area of skin where diapers are worn. Diaper rash can be caused by one of four different skin conditions, including:
- Irritant contact dermatitis. This is the most common cause of diaper rash and develops if a baby’s skin is exposed to feces or urine for an extended period of time. An infection can begin to set in if it is left untreated. Because of this, it’s important for parents to keep their child’s diaper as clean as possible, or take them to a skin care professional if a serious rash begins to develop.
- Yeast overgrowth. Yeast overgrowth affects many infants and toddlers because of the moist and warm climate of their diapers. It usually develops as red patches and bumps.
- Allergic contact dermatitis. Allergic contact dermatitis is caused by an allergic reaction to the material that the diaper, elastic, or diaper tape is made of. Because of this, it develops in areas where this material makes contact with the skin.
- Other irritating skin conditions.
Warts
Warts are small, contagious growths that most commonly develop on the hands and feet. While they are always non-cancerous and generally not a cause for medical concern, they can sometimes form in places that are uncomfortable or cumbersome for children. Our practice can offer children with painful warts a variety of effective, minimally invasive treatments to remove them with as little discomfort as possible.
Acne
Acne is a condition of the sebaceous glands that can cause papules, blackheads, and whiteheads to form on the skin. While it typically doesn’t develop until individuals are in their teen or adult years, some children can develop it earlier in life. For these patients, we offer a wide variety of treatments that can improve the appearance of acne and soothe the skin.
