Minimize Lines and Wrinkles with BOTOX Cosmetic

November 9, 2015 by Gregg Bessette

Botox Cosmetic

In an age where cosmetic solutions to wrinkles and fine lines are more widely accessible than ever, more and more people are turning to BOTOX® Cosmetic injections to smoothen their facial wrinkles.

At Dermatology and Skin Care Center in Windermere, we pride ourselves on our extensive experience administering BOTOX® Cosmetic.

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most widely used methods for eliminating frown lines, particularly ones between the eyebrows. In fact, it is the only approved treatment of its kind available today. Its safety and effectiveness has been tested and proven with scientific rigor — it is one of the most extensively researched medical cosmetic treatments on the market today, approved for use in 78 countries.

How Does it Work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic works by targeting the main source of wrinkles in the facial area: muscle contraction. The more a muscle contracts, the looser the skin that it moves becomes. This drooping of the skin causes the fine lines that appear between the brows and around the eyes that are indicative of aging.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a neurotoxin, meaning it slows neurological activity at the site of injection. Thus, when BOTOX® is injected into specific muscles of the face, it inhibits the contraction of those muscles. The inhibition of this muscle movement allows your fine lines and wrinkles to smoothen, eliminating wrinkles near the site of injection.

While BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered through injections, it is important not to confuse BOTOX® with injectable fillers. Injectable fillers are used to plump skin at the site of injection – BOTOX® does not do this, and cannot be used to plump areas of the skin.

What Should I Expect From a BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment?

On the day of your treatment, your treatment provider may first numb the site of injection depending upon how many injections you will be receiving. Once this precaution is taken, the BOTOX® solution is injected into carefully chosen areas. The procedure itself only takes a few minutes, but full effects of treatment will be visible up to 2 weeks following treatment.

Side effects of BOTOX® treatments include pain at the site of injection, bruising or swelling of the skin, and headaches. Luckily, these side effects are minimal and usually subside quickly.

Typically, the effects of each BOTOX® injection session last from 4 to 6 months. Because of this, multiple treatments are required for sustained results.

Contact Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center today to schedule a consultation with our trained team of aesthetic professionals to find out if a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is right for you. We look forward to hearing from you and helping you become the best version of yourself.
