BOTOX vs Juvederm: Which is Right for Me?

April 10, 2017 by Gregg Bessette

botox-vs-juvederm

When you’re looking at cosmetic options for anti-aging treatments like Botox and Juvederm, it can be challenging to untangle exactly which treatment might work best for you and fulfill your goals for your appearance.

Luckily, that’s what we’re here for — at Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center, we’re familiar with all the treatments and procedures available, and can recommend the one that’s going to be right for you and your needs.

If you’re trying to decide between getting a Botox treatment and a Juvederm treatment, it’s important to know that not only do they work a little differently from each other, they also give different results in your appearance, and will be best suited for different people with different skin concerns. Both, however, are great non-surgical, non-invasive procedures with fast recovery and little to no downtime.

Botox

Here’s a little bit about Botox and why you might choose it. If you’re worried about frown lines, wrinkles around the eyes, crow’s feet and forehead lines, Botox is an effective choice to smooth out skin, still muscles that create these lines, and help you look younger, more relaxed and carefree.

It works by injection, usually into the problem areas such as between the brows or around the lips. Deeper lines sometimes call for additional Botox treatments, but that’s something you can discuss with Dr. Hudgens and our medical staff.

There are things Botox can’t do, such as erase wrinkles that are caused by sun damage, or restore lost skin elasticity due to aging. Other treatments that we offer our Orlando-area patients are better choices for those concerns.

Juvederm

For patients who are looking for ways to reverse signs of aging and restore a more youthful, natural look, Juvederm may offer the solution. It treats decreased volume in the face and regains lost contours.

Juvederm is a cosmetic injectable gel that we apply to certain points beneath your skin. It helps restore lost facial volume in the cheeks, and restores firm lines in cheeks, jaw and chin, which often disappear with age. The results are long-lasting, up to two years. The results of Juvederm are  often compared to a facelift without the surgery.

More than one treatment is sometimes needed to achieve individual goals and needs, and our Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center team will work with you to determine the best options for you.

If neither Botox nor Juvederm fit your needs, we also offer other medical and cosmetic procedures or treatments that can address other concerns, like laser treatments, microneedling, and treatment for specific conditions like acne or rosacea.

We are proud to say that we’re known for not overselling or hard-selling our patients on unneeded procedures and we serve patients from our Windermere, Florida office across the Orlando area. If you have any questions or concerns about your skin that we can help you with, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
