Jessner Peel

Jessner Peel

What is a Jessner’s Peel?

The Jessner’s Peel is a solution consisting of 14% lactic acid and 14% salicylic acid (AHA) peeling agent with a resorcinol solvent.  This is a strong chemical peel that is known for delivering great results.

Why choose a Jessner’s Peel?

A Jessner’s peel achieves a more thorough peel than a Glycolic Acid peel, also known as AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) peel.  In addition to being an excellent facial treatment, a Jessner’s peel can be used to lighten areas of hyperpigmentation, treat acne, acne scars, photo damaged, and aging skin.

How is this procedure conducted?

Please come to your appointment with no makeup on your skin.  The skin will be degreased with acetone, and then Jessner’s solution is gently applied to the skin.  Repeated coats are applied until a white frost develops.  For a deep, effective peel, this usually takes 4-6 coats.  A temporary stinging, burning, and numbing sensation has been noted upon initial contact, as well as minor skin sensitivity to light and moderate redness.

Jessner’s peels are self-neutralizing, so once the appropriate amount of solution has been applied to the skin, a calming serum and moisturizer with SPF will be applied.  You will need to follow the post-treatment instructions provided by your paramedical esthetician.

What should I expect after the peel?

The downtime for this treatment is moderate.  It varies according to individual skin traits and selected concentration/application methods.  After a few days, the top layer of your skin will naturally flake or peel away.  This could last 5-7 days on average, but there is a possibility that it may take longer.  This process, in essence, reveals much clearer and smoother skin.

Sunburn Alert:  This product contains ALPHA Hydroxy Acid (AHA) and Resorcinol, which may increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun and the possibility of sunburn.  We recommend using an SPF with both Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide for optimum protection.

Note:  Ethnic skin types should proceed with caution due to an increased risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from Resorcinol exposure.

How often should I do a Jessner’s Peel?

A Jessner’s peel is a progressive treatment that will not provide a final result with one peel.  If the treatment is intended to solve a significant problem, Jessner’s peels are performed every 2-4 weeks, depending on the condition of your skin.
