Improve Rough Skin and Age Spots with Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels

In today’s fast-paced society, men and women are increasingly looking for ways to rejuvenate their aging or damaged skin without having to undergo extensive surgery and recovery time.

At Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center in Windermere, Florida, Dr. Jeannette Hudgens and our medical team have multiple types of chemical peels available to reduce the visible signs of aging and improve overall appearance.

What are Chemical Peels?

A fast-growing trend for restoring smoothness and vitality to the skin, chemical peels are non-surgical and non-invasive, making them ideal for easy, comfortable skin treatment. While some skin rejuvenation treatments are the same for everyone, chemical peels are available in varying strengths and can be tailored to fit your unique skincare needs.

Chemical peels are comprised of glycolic acid, salicylic acid and other active ingredients that are diluted and applied topically to the skin, where they are left to dry. For more severe skin conditions that require deeper penetration into the skin, additional layers of the chemical solution may be applied.

After the chemical solution is neutralized, the skin begins a peeling process that can take days or weeks, depending on the strength of the peel. The result is a new, undamaged layer of skin and a refreshed appearance.

Treating Rough Skin and Age Spots

In addition to the face, chemical peels are also safe and effective for improving skin on the hands, neck and chest as well as the arms, legs, back and feet. Typically for rough skin and age spots, Doctor Hudgens suggests medium-strength peels.

While light peels provide a very gentle exfoliation, medium peels penetrate further below the skin surface to treat more challenging conditions. The chemical ingredients are a little stronger in medium peels, but most patients feel tingling sensations with no pain during treatment.

Chemical peels are the least invasive way to treat rough skin and age spots, and while there are visible results after the first treatment, multiple sessions may be advised in order to provide maximum results.

Ways to Maintain Your Results

Our chemical peels are successful at significantly improving your skin appearance, but taking care of your skin doesn’t stop when you leave our office. Your skin is especially vulnerable after a chemical peel and should be protected with sunscreen and clothing while outdoors.

Adopting a good skincare regimen is another way to keep your skin clear, smooth and soft. Doctor Hudgens and our medical team will help you develop a routine that directly benefits your unique skin type and condition.
